  • Life extension drugs those are available
More and more life extension drugs have become a hot topic for their purported abilities to increase both the duration and quality of life. Without question however, the life extension foundation is a healthy lifestyle with a varied diet full of fruits and vegetables, adequate exercise, and the avoidance of alcohol, tobacco, and other toxic substances.

We’d all like to pop life extension capsules or take life extension vitamins but it may not be quite that simple. Anti-aging, life extension measures are an active process involving long-term care of the body not quick fixes once the damage of the passing years begins to appear.
Can They Actually Help You Live Longer?
For many of the substances regarded as life-extending, the jury is still out as to whether they do or do not work or if they work equally well in all individuals. There are many substances, however, with proven recuperative and preventative properties but there is no one magic pill.

Maintaining good health and living longer means taking charge of your life and living it – actively. That is not to say, however, that information on so-called life extending drugs should be ignored, especially as some have special efficacy in the presence of certain “aging” disease like Parkinson’s or Alzheimer’s or in rehabilitation after heart attack or stroke.
What Are The Top “Life Extension” Drugs?
A variety of “life extension drugs” are available, some as prescription medications, others as over the counter supplements. Most purport to enhance cognitive function and energy, to bolster the immune system, and to increase energy.
HGH
HGH or human growth hormone is the largest protein produced by the pituitary gland and until the end of adolescence, they stimulate the body to grow and develop. After adolescence HGH continues to be produced, primarily during sleep, to assist with tissue repair, healing, muscle growth, brain function, bone strength, energy, metabolism, and physical and mental health. As we begin to age, however, the pituitary produces less and less HGH.

A synthetic bioidentical form of HGH called Humatrope is given by injection to children and adolescents who are underdeveloped and to AIDS patients suffering from wasting. This substance is either too expensive ($12,000 to $225,000 annually) or not available to people who want to use HGH as an anti-aging drug. Instead, they must turn to various supplemental agents.

Oral ingestion of the amino acids arginine, histidine, glutamine, ornithine, methionine, phenylalanine, and lyisine is thought to stimulate HGH production and may be one of the safest and most promising avenues currently under study. Both homeopathic and nanogram doses of HGH meet with skepticism because the body will not absorb HGH taken orally and these doses are so small or so weak that experts contend they cannot possibly have any effect.
PIRACETAM
The Federal Drug Administration has not approved the use of piracetam (marketed as Nootropil®) in the United States although it can be ordered from Europe. The drug regulates and potentially enhances brain function and slows brain aging. It has been studied widely for use with dyslexic children and seems to improve communication between the two hemispheres of the brain.

Piracetam apparently works by stimulating the cerebral cortex and by speeding up the body’s metabolism. It also seems to interact in a positive way with the chemical processes that control memory and learning.

Normally piracetam is administered in 800mg tablets, but because it is often used without the supervision of a doctor as an anti-aging treatment, doses vary widely from person to person. It is generally believed that doses up to 2400mg can be used safely with few side effects.
DHEA
The adrenal glands produce the natural steroid hormone DHEA or dehydroepiandrosterone from cholesterol. It is similar in structure to androstenedione, testosterone, and estrogen and is the most abundant human hormone. When taken as a supplement, DHEA is believed to be beneficial in preventing heart disease, diabetes, obesity, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, immune system disorders, depression, and osteoporosis.

DHEA supplements also purport to improve the metabolism of fat, decrease insulin resistance, increase lean muscle, and increase the efficiency of the immune system. Collectively these effects are all anti-aging in nature, leading many to see DHEA as one of the best drugs for this purpose. (Many athletes take DHEA to lose fat and gain muscle.)

Known side effects of using DHEA can include abnormal growth of body hair and male pattern baldness. It should not be used by cancer patients if the cancer is classified as testosterone or estrogen dependent. In truth, however, little is known about the long-term use of DHEA and most skeptics agree that its effects will most likely vary from individual to individual.

Studies purporting to prove the beneficial effects of DHEA have used amounts as much as sixteen times greater than a normal 50 to 100mg dose. Excessive amount of testosterone in men leads to prostate cancer and in women will cause a growth of facial hair. Increasing estrogen in women will help to prevent osteoporosis but increase the risk of breast cancer. All in all, DHEA is a gamble with no proven odds for success.
VINPOCETINE-HYDERGINE
Vinpocetine, extracted from periwinkle, has not been approved for use by the Food and Drug Administration but is available in the United States in supplement form as it hydergine. Both are believed to have anti-aging effect with significant benefit to the brain.

In addition to fighting damage caused by free radicals, vinpocetine and hydergine increase the brain’s supply of blood and oxygen and allow the brain to use oxygen more efficiently. (They also protect the brain from damage during periods of oxygen deficiency.)

Both substances are believed to enhance brain metabolism, glucose use, and serotonin levels. (Most anti-depressants popular today seek to increase serotonin levels.) In terms of cognitive function, vinpocetine and hydergine increase memory, learning, and recall. Vinpocetine is often used for a decline in cognitive function following stroke. No side effects or interactions have been reported for either substance.
GH3 OR K.H. 3
The active agent in GH3 and K.H. 3 is procaine, a compound discovered in the 1950s and believed to have anti-aging properties. Although the full action of these substances is not fully understood, they seem to suppress monoamine oxidase (MAO) in the body thus protecting the neurotransmitters dopamine and norepinephrine and preventing serum cortisol levels from becoming elevated.

The effect of these actions is to clean and dilate blood vessels to improve circulation. Early improvements in people taking GH3 or K.H. 3 are often seen in the hair and nails. With the decrease in MAO people report improved energy and a lifting of depressive feelings and in keeping cortisol levels low, cell damage in the body is decreased.
