Possible Risks Involved In BOTOX® therapy For Wrinkle Treatment

BOTOX® therapy has been used for many years in the treatment of eye disorders, without any serious long-term side effects. There are however the possibility or minor side effects. The use of BOTOX® therapy may cause
  • Droopy eyelids
  • Feeling generally unwell
  • Numbness
  • Headache and upset stomach.
There are some claims that BOTOX® therapy can causes paralysis of the swallowing muscles, bronchitis or a heart attack.

There may be some slight discomfort during the procedure. There may also be bruising after the procedure, which can last for up to five days. There is a slight risk of botulism, but it is only a low risk if the practitioner is using BOTOX® therapy correctly. Women who are pregnant or who have nervous system diseases should not use BOTOX® therapy for wrinkle treatment. You should also avoid getting BOTOX® therapy if you have an infection in the place where the BOTOX® treatment will be injected.

BOTOX® injections should only be performed by a certified practitioner. Research your practitioner thoroughly before receiving the injections. Tell your practitioner if you are on any medication. You should also consult your doctor if there is anything you think may be affected by BOTOX® injections.

Other Alternatives
There are some other alternative injections to BOTOX® therapy wrinkle treatment. Argireline is one of them. However, most of the alternative injections will not have the benefit of long use and extensive research. Make sure you research any alternative injections as thoroughly as possible, before getting them.

Wrinkle fillers are another alternative. Unlike BOTOX® therapy, they do not relax the muscles. Instead, they inject products into your skin, plumping it up and smoothing away wrinkles.

Resurfacing procedures with acids and lasers may help eliminate fine lines.

Face lifts will last longer and will eliminate more wrinkles.
Should You Get BOTOX® therapy?
You should only get BOTOX® therapy if you are willing to commit to getting the injections every six months. If you only plan to get one treatment of BOTOX® shots, face wrinkles will return. BOTOX® therapy is best for people who are concerned about forehead furrows or wrinkles around the eyes, but are not that concerned about fine lines. BOTOX® wrinkle treatment can be very effective in treating wrinkles related to facial muscle movements.
