Stay young is no longer a dream
To age gracefully is every woman's secret desire and there are a host of anti ageing creams that are available to help one do so or so they claim. There has been a great increase in the number of women who opt for anti ageing creams with beauty magazines, which display unbelievably perfect photographs of women, doing their bit to make every woman want skin like the airbrushed model. This has resulted in increased dependency on such creams with many anti ageing creams offering to reduce years from your face along with erasing any imperfections that may be present. The pressure on a woman to stay young and look good has never been this high.

It is, however, important to look after one's skin with increasing pollution levels and harsh weather taking a toll on one's skin. A skin care regimen should be opted for after careful considerations and taking into account one's need and requirements.

Before opting for an anti ageing cream it is important to understand the kind of skin that you posses. These are the different types of skin

  1. Oily skin: To determine if you skin is oily, wipe a tissue on your face especially on your high cheekbones and check to see if the tissue paper is translucent.
  2. Normal skin: The skin feels moisturized without feeling oily.
  3. Dry skin: The skin is very dry and sometimes even scaly.
  4. Combination skin: The T-zone, consisting of the forehead ad the nose is oily while the rest of the face is not.
A cream should be selected depending upon the level of moisturizer that is present and the kind of skin that will be exposed to such creams.

Anti ageing creams generally contain one of the following ingredients which help the skin stay firm.

  1. Vitamin C- This vitamin is an essential component in many creams and many of these creams may be advertised as containing orange, which is rich in vitamin C. Orange peel masks and creams are available for use, both for day time as well as for use as a night cream. This vitamin has a skin brightening effect and as this vitamin is highly acidic it has an exfoliating effect on the skin. It is a good antioxidant and therefore very good as an ingredient for anti ageing creams. This vitamin also helps to increase the production of collagen and aids circulation.
  2. Retinol- Retinol is a derivative of Vitamin A and has been known to unclog the pores of the skin. It also increases the production of collagen, thereby reducing fine lines. The effects of retinol in an anti ageing cream have been found to be evident within 4 weeks of application, making this one of the best anti ageing creams that is available in the market today. These retinol creams are generally available on prescription from dermatologists, however some forms of less potent retinol creams are available as over the counter (OTC) anti ageing creams. These OTC creams may take up to a period of 12 weeks before they show any effect. Retinol creams may initially require some getting used to. Initially a pea sized amount of these creams should be applied to the entire face and then a general moisturizer should be applied. This should be done once in three days to allow the skin to get used to the product. Then the frequency of application may be increased gradually, otherwise redness and itching has been associated with retinol containing anti ageing creams. Retinols are sensitive to sunlight and are therefore recommended for use in the night, proper storage should be ensured as these creams tend to get oxidised easily, losing their potency.
  3. Vitamin A- Vitamin A has been fund to greatly reduce the wrinkles with its inflammatory property that tends to flesh out the wrinkle.
  4. Alpha hydroxyl acids- These serve to improve the skin by working to accelerate shedding of old skin cells for newer ones.
These are the main components that may be present in many anti ageing face creams available in the market. When choosing an anti aging skin cream it is important to check if it would suit your skin type and how sensitive you are to active ingredients that may be present in the cream.

A highly sensitive skin could be damaged far more than repaired when such anti ageing face creams are used. Caution should be exercised before slathering good proportion of such creams.

Serums are alternatives to creams and many claim that using serums are far better than creams because of the increased absorption that is seen when serums are used.

Another important note that needs to be remembered while using a particular skin care regimen is to change the product every 6 months. Certain products may be required to treat certain skin conditions and once these conditions have been treated, the cream would have nothing more to offer. A change in product that targets other skin imperfections would aid in helping the skin look better. So the best anti ageing cream and serum that one has decided upon for the moment need not be the same 6 months from there on. The same products, if they prove to have been very effective in treating a particular claimed imperfection, may be reverted to at a later stage.

Once the best anti ageing cream and serum has been selected based on one's skin type and requirements, the product should be applied diligently, following all the guidelines put forth by the manufacturer.

The eye is an important part of the face that has many emotions to express. As one ages, the tender skin under the eye, tends to sag, develop fine lines or become dark. This may be avoided or reduced by using anti ageing eye creams that help sooth the eye and provide it with the necessary care.

These anti ageing creams when used constantly have been found to be very effective in many people; however certain side effects have also been reported. Caution should be exercised before a particular anti ageing cream is used.
